Long-Term aging and degradation of microplastic particles: Comparing in-situ oceanic and experimental weathering patterns
My first first-author manuscript. This paper is the first chapter of my PhD dissertation. It is an experiment started by Miriam Goldstein that I completed. We experimentally weathered the six most common consumer plastics and compared the changing of their chemical bonds over time with aged plastic particles collected from the ocean. We analyzed the plastic with FTIR spectroscopy.
