Scientific Writing

GIS for Science

November 2021

While at AOS, we were asked to coauthor a chapter in esri’s book GIS for Science Volume 3: Maps for Saving the Planet. I was in charge of the chapter’s layout and flow, as well as final edits. Our chapter highlights AOS’s work on underwater acoustics and how it can be used for everything from defense to conservation. It was an honor to write a book alongside Dawn Wright, one of my personal heroes, and have a foreword by E.O. Wilson, only months before he passed.

Minno

Spring-Summer 2020

I partnered with the Christian children’s media company Minno to write a five part blog series on Creation Care and climate change, and how to care for the earth as a Christian today. These blogs were especially close to my heart, as there is often a perceived false dichotomy between the worlds of science and faith. The blogs were also turned into a downloadable Life Guide for parents to use to teach their kids.

LTER Blog

February 14, 2016

My PhD lab was part of the NSF LTER (Long-Term Ecological Research) Network. The grad students at our LTER site helped start a grad-student run blog among all the LTER sites across America. It is called SSALTER - Short Stories About Long Term Research. This post appeared on that blog, describing life at sea.

In addition to this blog, I created and maintained the official twitter accounts for both our LTER site and two student cruises I sailed on, so the public could follow along with our science.

I first wrote this article for MAJR Magazine, a startup online magazine started by undergrads, for undergrads, to explore future career paths. They then helped me republish it on Huffington Post.
